Seriously nice property..! Perfect place to relax... No worries, caretaker is near by if any thing needed for house and such. Mayan Beach Garden Resort up the road if you want beer, food, restaurant, company... Highly recommended.

Hi Suzanne,
I have been meaning to shoot you a note to thank you for the opportunity to stay in your lovely home! We really enjoyed our trip and the house! The house was perfect for our two families – so spacious and accommodating and we took advantage of all it had to offer! The weather unfortunately was not great during our stay for three out of the 5 days so we ended up spending quite a bit of time inside, but I am glad that we had such a nice space to hang out in-it definitely made the poor weather more bearable! Friday, our last day, was fortunately good weather for most of the day and so we took advantage of it and did some snorkeling in town with Gypsea Divers – they were so great and I really highly recommend them if any of your guests are looking for a good snorkeling/scuba option in Mahahual. We were able to get fruits, veggies and tortillas on Monday and Thursday from the truck that came by those days, which was great. Carlos was great – very friendly and helpful and he kept the beach very clean for us. He also helped me one night with the oven – I had a brownie mix I had whipped up and wanted to bake but couldn't get the oven to work and he fixed it for us-the pilot light needed to be re-set. We really appreciated him being around – it made the stay stress-free.

Casa Maria is one of the top Vacation Homes we have stayed at throughout the world. The house, Bed linen towels and kitchen utensils was spotlessly clean which to my wife is most important. Thank you for the return of the deposit which I have donated to a children's charity called Children in Need.

I guess the best review for your home is that we'll be returning this winter for another six weeks.
We loved both your home and the surrounding area.
The grand-kids (3 & 6) learned how to boogie board in the front yard.
They had a wonderful time hunting for crabs every evening in the dark, this time we're bring nerf guns with glow in the dark bullets for more adventures.

The fresh fruits, veggie's, and warm fresh tortillas delivered to the door several times a week (for next to nothing) was great! I'm missing the mangos.
We saw 1-3 people max walking along our stretch of the beach each day, so sunbathing was very private.
Almost hit an ocelot on the beach road one night, beautiful!
We saw the ruins at Chacchobean and Kohunlich (a must see), take a water bottle as you're exploring without the crowds!
Go north up the beach to the point for snorkeling, or drive as there's a little road down to the beach there.
Best snorkeling areas anywhere I've been (and I lived in Hawaii for two years); giant star fish, rays, and gorgeous coral formations.
If you have time, sign up with "Otto" at Costa-Maya-Tours in downtown Mahahual for a trip out to Banco Chinchorro for snorkeling & to see the crocs.
We also spent a day spear fishing with "Mike", Mayan Beach Gardens set this up for us, and got all the fish we could grill & eat for our trip.
We enjoyed going into Mahahual both when a cruise ship was in port and all the shops were open, and when the ships weren't in and it was mostly the locals and their families.
Mahahual's beach is very safe, shallow with no waves, so the kids loved playing there and gathering up handfuls of itty bitty hermit crabs.
The people in town are very friendly and by the end of our trip we felt like we knew everyone.
There are at least four (that we found) grocery stores in town and each sells different items, we drove up into Chetumal and stocked up but most could be found locally.
Luckily our third child is going to be able to make it this year, so we have an excuse to go back to all of our favorite places.
We're adding a drive down into Belize river tubing, and a deep sea fishing excursion this trip.
It was SO hard to say good-bye to Carlos when we left, he was wonderful, and we can't wait to see him again in a couple of weeks.

What can compare...
We loved the openness of Casa Maria. We all enjoyed the house so much! I especially liked the outside concrete benches, tile table and roof-top circular bench. What a surprise! Ice, cool water, lovely Cuisinart pans and every implement imaginable for cooking! Monday, Wednesday and Friday's - Fresh vegetable and fruit trucks come by, kayaks life jackets, soft beds and I got lost in the pillows of the yellow couch! Carlos was so eager to offer information and help of any kind. his knowledge of the world and also local people and landmarks made our stay so much more interesting! We were definitely spoiled!

Wow! We had a great trip!! Everything went wonderfully. The house was immaculate, weather pretty good (some days were rainy, but that didn't stop us!) and everyone had a great time. Carlos was great, gave us lots of good info and even accompanied Mike and I to town to get supplies and beer one day, as our Spanish isn't the best. The kids couldn't be kept out of the water and we used up every bit of sunscreen!

Casa Maria and the surrounding area are beautiful. We enjoyed hanging out at the house and doing nothing at all as well as driving around and touring some of the area's villages and ruins. We spent an afternoon at the Chacchoben ruins and got a tour from one of the local Chaccoben town residents.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Maria. It is a beautiful home and location. We loved that you have purified water from the refrigerator and good wireless internet. Beds were very comfortable and the soaps in the bath were a special touch. We very much appreciated that you had overhead fans everywhere. We had dinner one evening at the Mayan Garden Hotel and enjoyed the food and talking to the owners who were very welcoming. It is a great asset that there is a place to get a good meal close to your home. We went scuba diving a couple of days and thought that the diving was good. Your directions for finding your home were clear and very helpful. The sign at the turnoff was also helpful.

Dana & Suzanne you have a beautiful home! We enjoyed staying here at CM, our family had a GREAT time! Carlos took care of us and did more then what he had to make our stay fun and safe.
Keep him around

It was just the balance two busy souls needed... sunshine, refreshing breezes, a spacious and the thoughtfully designed Casa. Carlos was an added treasure.
Thank you

Thanks! were coming back in Oct!

We loved staying at Casa Maria! It’s such an amazing home! It was so easy to relax on your isolated beach and still have access to all the amenities in town.

Lori and Bruce

Wow things have changed in Mahahual since our last visit. You can count on us staying at Casa Maria soon.
Thank you for welcoming us to your enchanting home! It really is a dream down here! We loved kayaking and walking on the beach in the morning and snorkeling with the fish each afternoon!
Thank you

"The house was great! Just as described. Beautiful location, very private. Cloudio, the caretaker, was super helpful and there for anything we needed. He kept the beach in front of the house immaculate. We all wanted to stay for longer and will try to stay here again when we come this way.”
Don't feel like cooking!
The Mayan Beach Garden (restaurant & bar) just down the street will deliver lunch and dinner to our guest at Casa Maria. They also sell beer and ice.

Hi Dana, We had a great time at Casa Maria. The house was even better in person than in pictures. The beach was great, fishing was good, we loved having the dogs around and Claudio was very helpful. The Mayan Garden was a fun place to hangout. We would definitely love to return next year.

Thanks for the great stay.

Hi Suzanne
Sorry I have been busy but wanted to reply. We love the area, we have a property on the beach near Xcalak and would like to build, but we are having problems with the permit. Claudio was very helpful. He raked the beach every morning, we were happy to see the sargasso was gone. Whenever we asked for anything he provided it right away.
My buddy with a permit caught right in front of the house. We also caught bonefish off the beach, and tarpon in the lagoon across the street.
“Probably one of the best or best big house in the area. Ideal for big families or two average families. The house was perfectly described and Dana described very well the house, how to get to the place, amenities, things to do in the area, etc. Also, the house was very well equipped with everything you will need to enjoy the place (2 kayaks for 2 adults or 1 adult and 2 kids each), snorkeling, table games, DVDs, etc. We found the house very clean. It was very useful to have Claudio, the house keeper, living beside the house. The was something that has to be fixed in the bathroom and he responded immediately, taking care of it. It is good to know that the house is not equipped with a dishwasher, something that you could miss taking into account that the house can easily host 8/9 people. I understand the supply of energy could be an issue for a solar powered house, so this could be the reason for not having a dishwasher. I would fully recommend this house for a different type of vacation, far from the day to day craziness, close to wonderful nature. Our kids also loved the place. Thanks Dana!”
Thank you Jorge, we hope to be connected to the power on the road in the next few weeks :)
Incredible house, a beautiful view ... Perfect for a vacation in a more private location. Beautiful decoration, everything in order. Simply I loved it.

Thank you for welcoming us to your home Dana, everything you offered was just like what we received, Claudia very attentive to us, always cleared up questions and suggested options. In our case that we hit Hurricane Earl the house has anti-hurricane curtains which gave us peace of mind while the hurricane. Highly recommended for anyone looking to be in a place totally free of the hustle and bustle of the city and free of sellers. It really is a place to rest. The house has a number of domestic accessories that are required when you go as a family.
